We are Hiring!

We are looking for a motivated and curious PhD student to join our newly

established research group at MIRM, MAHE-B’luru. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a growing team from the ground up and contribute to shaping the direction of our research.

Our Focus

We study innate immunity using Drosophila melanogaster, a powerful and widely used model in genetics and immunology. With over a century of research, Drosophila offers unmatched genetic tools, mutant libraries, and genomic resources. Despite its simplicity, Drosophila has a robust innate immune system that mirrors key aspects of human immune response. Pathways like Toll and IMD, first identified in flies, have direct human counterparts.

We are studying the recently discovered but poorly understood phenomenon known as Immune priming seen in invertebrates. Immune priming refers to an enhanced immune response upon secondary exposure to a pathogen, despite the absence of adaptive immunity. It suggests that innate immune systems can exhibit memory-like properties, challenging traditional views of invertebrate immunity.

Who We're Looking For

  • Master’s degree in any branch of life science with a strong interest in immunology.

  • Prior experience in basic biochemistry and molecular biology.

  • Familiarity with Drosophila research work or Cell culture is desirable, but not required.

  • A solid foundation in biological sciences is essential.

  • Candidates with national fellowships (e.g., CSIR-UGC NET, DBT, ICMR-JRF, DST-Inspire) will be preferred.
